Pedicel Peduncle diagram

Diagram showing the relative positions of the pedicel and peduncle

In botany, a peduncle is a stem supporting an inflorescence, or after fertilisation, a fruit.

The peduncle is a stem, usually green and without leaves, though sometimes coloured or supporting small leaves. The peduncle may diverge into smaller limbs, in which case the ramifications are called pedicels.
